An Intranet is a private computer network based on the communication
standards of the Internet. It is smaller version of the Internet
that only the members of an organisation can see. Individual companies
can create within their walls a manageable and secure version of
the World Wide Web. These internal Web systems are growing from
an explosion in the use and understanding of Internet technology.
With the use of Intranets it’s not only the removal of paper
that leads to increases in company productivity. Intranets allow
a company to spend less time on chores that bring no value such
as chasing down the right information to solve a problem. So, in
effect, productivity increases as corporate knowledge is more readily
accessible with accurate data on hand. Flexibility in the delivery
time of information is attained with the knowledge being always
a click away.
Intranets allow for a place where information exchange is encouraged.
This leads to better-informed employees having the ability to formulate
improved, faster decisions - the outcome - better productivity and
more time for revenue generation.
